12 new additions to webtools
Thanks to James Clay for linking to a Wikipedia article which claimed to list the Top 25 web2.0 tools for students and ‘professors’.
I’ve made a quick review of these and found 12 which were new to me and satisfied the free and mostly ad-free criteria. One or two look really good and web designers will love ZohoCreator. Pity it came to my attention the day after I’d spent ages trying to figure out how to put a huge load of course details on a web site for Adult Learners’ Week!!
The new entries are:
Engrade (progress monitoring and reporting tool)
Gradefix (helps students plan things)
Tuggle (seems to do everything and aimed at student organisation)
Team Cowboy (for sports tutots planning teams, events, equipment etc.)
30Boxes (yet another calendar, in case you still don’t know where you are when!)
ZohoProjects and Zoho Creator (can’t believe I missed these brilliant applications)
My Stickers (looks fun - PostIt note style bookmarking)
Bloglines (track your web logs)
Mindomo (mind-mapping, in case you hadn’t guessed)
Empressr (another presentation on-line creator)
Campfire (chat room creator)
Those that didn’t make the grade:
Chalksite (being withdrawn so don’t create anything there now)
Schoopy (looks fun but very very slow to load - I’ll try again, though)
CollegeRuled (needs an .edu address)
Neptune (only a 15 day trial)
My Tickler ( dodgy name and needs a fee)
Meebo (I know it’s good and all the students seem to use it but it’s just an IM portal and not sure I need to feature it. May change my mind. )
