Here’s a quick list - there’ll be more information on the updates page of the site or with the individual entries.

Animoto and PhotoSynth will do wonderful things with your images and, in the former case, your music tracks too (or use one of theirs). If you’re think about presenting something with substantial image content, give them a whirl.

Zoto is somewhere to store photos. Ok, I know, Flickr does that but this hasn’t that annoying restriction on just three groups or the monthly file upload limit.

Something you can do with Flickr, though, is search for images that display certain colours - a cool way to find images for design purposes that Tim Rawe showed me in Ipswich, of all places.

drop.io - there are several free file-sharing places around now, like box.net and e-snips. This is another and delightfully simple to use with no registration or anything. Very good and possibly the fastest way to share any type of media other than tossing it across the desk.

Webtools site update: Jan 09

Quite a few new additions - and some potential gems too!

Jing and Camtasia will help you present whatever you may have on-screen to others in a very smart way - see them in the Images section.

Shelfari, Timeline, Quizlet, Poll Everywhere and TeacherTube have been added to the Research section.

Glogster features in the Web design section and Twitter finally gets in, via the More section. I suppose I should add Facebook too as there is an excellent Page tool there where you can publish information about a topic, add links, images etc and utilise all of Facebook’s established collaboration tools to share your work with others. Although, like Twitter, the emphasis may be on social networking, quite a few educational and pure information pages are in evidence now. In fact, writing that convinced me that I really should add Facebook, so I did.

Webtools site update

A few changes. I’ve added stars to indicate roughly the feedback I’ve had on most tools. If they haven’t got any that probably means no-one’s used them yet or haven’t been impressed if they have. Surprisingly, almost all of the links still work and I’ve fixed a couple that didn’t. Some have bitten the dust. Thumbstacks I’m sad to see go. Well it hasn’t quite gone but as I can’t access the site I guess it has disappeared and will soon be deleting th entry. Tuggle seems to have been taken over by some very religious people and isn’t really suitable any more. Impatica now want payment so farewell to them. In the Planning section, ChatCreator and LGTNet have ceased to exist. In Web design, Google Page Creator is still there but it’s only available to those with accounts already. With Google Sites now up and running and much better, I should think Gpages will slowly go.

Additions are PDF Creator in Office. It’s not a web tool as such but is so useful if all you want is a PDF version of a document. The DrawLoop and Scribd alternatives are super but PDF Creator beats them for simple tasks.

In Planning, there are two new mind-mapping tools: XMind and VUE - the former very colourful and inviting the latter rather academic-looking but it has had good reports elsewhere.

In Media I’ll be adding Picnic shortly which does a good job for those needing quick image adjustments on-line.

In Web Design, look out for Academia.edu which is the place to register your interests, activities and research links as a tutor. It has a very well designed page and adding information and links to your own area is straightforward. For some, it may be their main ‘home page’. The other big addition is the wonderful Lefora with their free forum creation application. Run your own Facebook site! It should be an excellent way to get students and/or colleagues to share things, maybe even work together as the younger ones will find the interface and structure familiar.
